Shimano Sedona FD Spinning Reel is a big step up from the cheaper Sienna. It has more features and is very smooth compared to the Sienna or many other reels. It doesn't have a dozen BB's but you don't need very many for a smaller spinning reel. Unless the reel is heavy and your going to be fishing for 30 lb+ you won't need more than 6 or so ball bearings for the reel to feel silky smooth.

This reel is unbelievably low-priced. It lays the line well and the retrieve is silky smooth. However, I recently bought two reels and both have weak bail springs. Sometimes the bail will not fully close when the reel is cranked moderately after a cast. Previously I had a Sweepfire-B 3500 (damaged in an accident) that did not have this problem.

The construction is very solid and the action is very smooth. The thing that impressed me the most was the Anti-Reverse handle back play. I was amazed how there was absolutely zero reverse gear play. Many reels at this price do not deliver such performance. The ability to get rid of reverse handle back play is very important when it comes to setting the hook properly and it also prevents long-term wear on the internal gears, which means a longer overall life of the reel itself. The free ABS extra spool was an added perk for me who likes switching between using mono and braided line. I, definitely, will buy the other various sizes in the future,being that the price allows me the luxury of dedicating a rod and reel for a specific fishing situation.

With a bent drag star, and a bent handle design the reel itself is much more compact than last generation. It is very smooth to reel and feels good in my hands.

Other than that it is almost identical the the older models. Most of the innards are the same. same gear ratio, same magnetic brakes, same spool design, alot is the same.

It also feels ever so slightly cheap. I'm not exactly sure how to describe it, but the outside looks a little plasticky kinda cheap feeling. the tension knob dosen't feel as....precise as the old model, the mag brakes don't seem as good as last years model eaither. One thing I really do miss though is the flipping switch of the older generation. Now only the new silver max will have it. But I can cast without it.

But overall I do like this reel. For 50$ you cant go wrong, and Abu Garcia manages to make quality products for cheap. I would definanly suggest this item as a first baitcaster, or a more expirienced fisherman looking for a cheap reel to round out thier collection. If it wasn't for those few small negatives this reel would be a 5/5. But overall this is a good, quality, cheap reel.

Avenger's On/Off Auto Trip Baitfeeding System:
Okuma's Avenger baitfeeding system allows anglers to disengage their spinning reel spool and allow their bait to run freely. The baitfeeding system incorporates a secondary, micro-adjustable drag system at the rear of the reel that allows for precise adjustment of the spool for bait control. In order to disengage this system, simply turn the handle. The On/Off lever on the rear of the reel will automatically disengage the baitfeeding system so you can fight your fish with the main drag system.
